Saving with Plum

I’m a list maker, FACT!
From as far back as I can remember I’ve liked a list and usually I write them to keep me on track and to help me reach targets and goals. As well as daily to do lists, at the start of every month alongside my monthly budget I make a list of the things I’d like to achieve that month. Some goals are as simple as finally fixing the cupboard door and other household things, some are financial and other goals are bigger.

In January when I set out my intentions for the year, one of those things was a target of saving £1200 by December in a ‘just because’ pot. I save monthly for different things but each pot has a purpose so I wanted to try and save this amount for no particular purpose other than ’just because.’ This month marks the half way mark of my savings challenge where I should have £600 saved so far but secretly I wanted to be a little ahead of the halfway mark by saving £700 and I managed to smash that target less than 2 weeks into the month.
Nope, we’ve not come into money and no we don’t have the money just laying around but it was super easy thanks to the Plum saving app. I used to manually skim my current account daily but it became tedious and there were days I forgot so when an ad for this app popped up it seemed like the perfect alternative. It skins my account every time that I use my card linked to it or a direct debit or standing order is paid out of my account. Within the app you are given the opportunity to decide just how much or how little the app rounds down or skims for you to help manage you budget. I know everyone’s ability to save is different and based on individual circumstances but Plum has genuinely helped me.

The app boasts other features like investment opportunities and money saving tips on your energy bills which if I’m honest I don’t use but the basic function of the app is great for helping you to save. Every 3 months you have to authorise the app to be linked to your chosen account which takes seconds and the app is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority which means your money is just as protected as any money you have in a regular bank account.

Whether you want to start saving for Christmas, book a holiday or just are rubbish at saving, I’d definitely recommend giving plum a try.

What methods do you use to help you save?

Emma xoxo
